  • Aladdin - by Lord Nazerous

    Introduction:

This is one of the many Disney movies that was made into a video game. The game VERY loosly follows the movie's story line. There's some things in this game that have nothing to do with the movie. The story follows the movie's basic story line. Jafar tries to get the lamp, and then tries to take over the the Sultan.

    Graphics [8/10]:

Aladdin is a 2-D side-scroller. The graphics are very well done. Rather than making a 3-D rendered game, Capcom, made an animated game, with graphics that look like they were almost taken out from the movie. From the dark graphics of the Cave of Wonders, to the colorful levels Inside the Genie's Lamp. The backrounds and obstacles are wonderfully drawn. Aladdin and the enemies are drawn to look like their movie counter-parts. Although there is a little variety in enemies.

    Music and Sound [7/10]:

The music is ok. It changes tracks every so often and that's a definite plus! But the music isn't great quality, it's a little "Choppy", and dull. The music doesn't get annoying, it just becomes boring. It sounds like Capcom was trying to shadow, the Movie Sound Track, but they did a sloppy job on it.
Aladdin's sound is a lot better than it's music. The barrels breaking and jars breaking, actually have different sounds! Aladdin yells, "Whoa" when he gets hit, and the sounds keep going on and on. There's a big variety of sounds, but they're over used in the game, so they don't seem very special at all.

    Game Play [9/10]:

This game had me in awe, at how great Game Play could be. I bought this game right after I had been play a very stinky game for a long time, and I was so greatful to Capcom for making me beleive in video games again. There's six stages in all. They all have their own unique levels. In each level you have a chance to find a scarab...which allows you to play a bonus game with Genie, once you clear the level. The levels consist of enemies, obstacles, and a whole lot of traps! There's a few Power Up's but not many, one of the most important items is a Rug. By pressing L+R it allows Aladdin to gently glide to the ground.
When playing this game you get a sence of Acrobatics. Aladdin flips on the enemie's heads and on jugs. He also can grabon to leadges and swing around, this is another great feature that makes the game more fun.

    Challenge and Replay [5/10]:

This is what's disappointing. There is very little challenge in this game. I beat it in Twenty minutes. The only real challenge in this game is the Escape from the Cave of Wonders. I can now get throught the game in fifteen minutes without dying once! It's not that there aren't any levels..it's just too easy!
There aren't too many levels you really want to go back to. They are fun, but after playing them for three hours it gets sooo boring. The game is just too easy to keep playing, I'm not saying that easy is bad..but there should be some sort of warning!

    Conclusion/Overall [7.2/10]:

Aladdin is an exellent game for younger kids. It'll give them hours of challenge, and fun. For the rest of us, this is a good game to borrow or rent. It's relly fun, but it can be beaten easily, and quickly. Everything on this game is well done and superb, except the sound and challenge/replay. If your into easy games..this is for you....But for those movie buffs out there...don't buy this game just because it has Aladdin all over it. The game could easily be about a guy named Bob, the acrobat, and know one would know it was really Aladidin.
